African at risk of contracting HIV by bizarre practice that require them to have sex with sand!

Women in many parts of the world are performing a sexual practice known as 'dry sex', which not only hurt but also leave them more vulnerable to HIV.
The practice is done to reduce the moisture of your vagina, giving more pleasure to men.
In addition to causing cuts, sores and inflammation in the female sexual organ, the chance of the condom breaking is much higher. Because of this, the risk of sexually transmitted diseases are higher in these women.
The dry sex is usually performed in countries in Southern and Central Africa, and Indonesia.
The ritual is part of a cultural belief, where it is believed that men will reject women whose vaginas are not pleasurable enough. To achieve dryness, women insert chalk, sand, powdered rock, grass, paper or sponge before the sex, the journalist Ms Syfret, which reported on the practice in South Africa.
They also tend to wash their vaginas with detergents, antiseptics, alcohol and bleach. Women in Java, Indonesia, even defumam their vaginas standing up on herbs on fire, aim Love Matters reports. In other areas of Indonesia, it is common to insert a stick-shaped cigar made from a plant root.
While the World Health Organization consultation documents show that global authorities are aware that the problem exists, most research on the case is recurrent decades ago and not many numbers on its prevalence today.
A 2009 study in Zambia showed how the practice of dry sex helped spread the HIV virus. About two-thirds of the 812 women interviewed had used traditional methods of dry sex at some point in their lives, and about half still practiced.
But the world's reluctance to discuss sexual health explains how the practice has not been discussed. "Most of the available information was anecdotal, speculative or inadequate - mainly because of the cultural reluctance to discuss or investigate personal sexual issues," the researchers said.
In the same way, a specialist in sexual health and activist in South Africa, Dr. Marlene Wasserman, known as Dr. Eva said that most people are aware of the problem, but it is not discussed, and has not received sufficient attention the government of the country.
She also said that the continued practice of dry sex shows lack of education concerning equality and women's rights in the area. "It's definitely a class issue. Basically, the reputation of a woman depends on the size of your vagina. Among women who are less informed and less educated, there is an incredible ignorance around that idea."
The practice is rooted in culture, passed between generations of women, and the lack of sex education contributes to the fact.Lipe Lundorf
