The bombing of the King David Hotel

The bombing of the King David Hotel was an attack in Jerusalem, in what was then Palestine, occurred July 22, 1946, with the creators a so-called Zionist organization Irgun (short for Irgun Zvai Leumi, National Military Organization) and target installations
the King David Hotel in this city, which were residential of family members of employees of the British government in Palestine. The attack was organized by Menachem Begin who later served as Israel's prime minister twice. The terrorist attack resulted in the deaths of 91 people (28 British, 41 Arabs, 17 Jews and five others dead) and serious injuries to another 45 people.
This attack was considered by many, act of terrorism and the military organization Irgun labeled as terrorist. But this attack, not "attack" was done with military objectives and not for the purpose of causing terror. The fact that civilians were killed in the attack, was a reflection of British prohibit the departure of the guests of the hotel's facilities, and not by the will of the Irgun.
Curiosities
In 1995 the Municipality of Jerusalem decided to name "Gal" to an avenue in honor of one of the men who planned the attack, Joshua "Gal" Goldschmidt.
In July 2006, the former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli right politicians took part in a commemorative event of the sixtieth anniversary of the bombing. The group placed a commemorative plaque at the hotel that pays tribute to the Irgun and displays the version on the notice to the British. The event has generated discontent on the part of the United Kingdom, whose ambassador to Israel regretted the fact that the municipality has authorized the placement of the plate, stressing that the 1946 event was treated to an act of terrorism
