Russia says offensive in Syria could cause world war

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev assessed that a foreign ground offensive in Syria could lead to "a new world war" during an interview with German business daily Handelsblatt, which will be published on Friday.
"The ground offensives generally lead to a war that ends up being permanent," he warned the prime minister, for whom "all parties should be forced to sit at the negotiating table rather than trigger a new world war."
"Americans and our Arab partners need to think much about it: they want a permanent war" would have asked during the interview with the newspaper.
"They really think they'll win a war so quickly? It is impossible, especially in the Arab world. There everyone fighting everyone ... Everything is much more complicated. It may take years or decades," he continued.
"Why is this necessary?" He asked, according to a published excerpt from the newspaper's Friday edition.
"All sides need to be brought to the negotiating table rather than encouraging a new world war," he added.
